Sumatran Pendidikan - an Indonish blended phrase - loosely translates as Sumatran Education, the heart of my 2011 summer. This blog tracks my Sumatran Pendidikan: learning about educational systems and programs and sharing ideas through a teaching exchange...while also exploring and discovering new things about myself and the world through untethered travel, treks and urban walk-abouts. My gratitude to the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program and staff and my generous host teacher Siti Zulfah Sulaiman and her colleagues in Medan for making this Sumatran Pendidikan possible.

Back Online

At "My Cafe" (a delicious Chinese-Indonesian restaurant) at My Dream Hotel...happy and chillin'.

My Dream Hotel lobby and the super wonderful, very helpful staff hard at work at the front desk.
Thanks to my good friends at SMA Negiri 3 Medan (the high school where Zulfah works and where I am based for the next two weeks), I have full internet access and with my netbook back in my hands I should be able to do a proper job of blogging now...not that I know what that looks like really. Anyway, it's great to be on this second half of my exchange - the official teaching and learning part - though I have yet to even begin to process all that I saw, heard, smelled, tasted, felt during the previous two weeks of travel.  I don't know how to catch everyone up or how best to add to this blog at this point in order to share the photos I can now download and the stories which have piled up...I suppose the next few entries will be a bit random and messy and then maybe I'll get into a flow or pattern of some sort.  Seems I can only put a few photos in each entry - so there will be a number of short entries for a while with images...Enjoy!
